Our Founder
From an early age, Steven Malfatti's love for construction was nurtured by his father, Franco, a seasoned supervisor at Pitts Construction for over 25 years. These formative years were spent side by side with his father on job sites, providing Steven with a comprehensive early education in the intricacies of the construction process—a time he fondly cherishes.
Growing up in Northern Italy, Steven immersed himself in building construction and finish carpentry during his teenage years. A testament to his early dedication, he earned trade certification in carpentry and building construction at the age of 16. By 18, Steven successfully spearheaded the construction of a new Town Hall, a significant 10,000 SF project.
Returning to Canada at 21, Steven seamlessly integrated into a large construction company focused on building factories nationwide. Initially a general laborer, his invaluable contributions caught the attention of management, leading to a swift promotion to supervisor. Here, he adeptly managed multimillion-dollar projects and led teams of over 20 workers.
At 26, Steven joined PCL as a carpenter, specializing in high-rise and low-rise condominium construction. Rapidly earning recognition for his expertise, he progressed to managing diverse projects with crews ranging from 50 to 150 tradesmen, laborers, architects, and building inspectors. This experience afforded Steven the opportunity to oversee large and intricate projects spanning Canada, South and Central America, and the U.S.
In 2008, Steven established Tight Rein Construction Limited in Toronto, focusing on custom home renovations. The company, dedicated to turning client dreams into reality, guides them through every stage—from planning and design to the finishing touches. Specializing in spaces for homes, condos, and offices, Tight Rein excels in crafting beautiful yet practical areas, including kitchens, bathrooms, basements, additions, and landscaping.
Drawing upon decades of diverse experience, Steven has successfully channeled his expertise into creating a portfolio of satisfied clients. The extensive list stands as a testament to his professional approach to construction and unwavering commitment to customer service, making every collaboration with Steven and Tight Rein a source of happiness and excitement for clients.
